Steamed Fish Stall @ Taman Segar, Cheras

Having tried numerous places for steamed fish, I am kind of getting a higher and higher expectation on this delicacy. Upon browsing some reliable foodie blogs, I have decided to try this place which is merely 5 minutes drive from my home ... yes, I am staying in Cheras too. However, I really feel like dashing my head as I hardly heard about the place when it's so near to my home and yet I always travel quite a distance to search for the best steamed fish in the klang valley. *sigh*

This is the small corner where the chef and the staffs work. Note the 2 aquariums inside the grill? That's where all the fishes are kept ie live fishes to ensure the freshness of the steamed fish. It was only around 6.15 pm and yet all the tables have been fully occupied while the rest of the customers are queuing for a table (including myself who is queuing on the opposite site of the stall).

*Important note*

Must order your dishes while queuing or otherwise you will not be given a table despite that you have been on the queue ages ago!!! According to the staff, live fishes will be sold out before 8.30 pm, so be early to avoid any disappointment!!
Spicy Soy Bean (taucu ) Steamed Talapia Fish

The fish is very fresh without any fishy or earthy smell and the gravy is thick with generous portion of soy bean with the right amount of sweetness but let me warn you, it's really spicy even for my taste bud which is always on the go for spicy food. Overall, I love this dish for its special spicy gravy but it's definitely a NO NO for a non-spicy food lover.
The Steamed Egg Custard

Does it look like a plate of steamed egg custard to you? To me, it looks more like a plate of tau fu fah with gula melaka. However, looks can be deceiving as the steamed egg custard was so perfectly cooked that its texture is extremely smooth to the extent that I make a joke with my mum and husband saying that I believe a fly might sprain its leg when it perch on the egg custard .. lol ..

The Steamed Iceberg Cabbage

Nothing fancy about this dish, not too oily, just very homely taste.

How to get there?

Jalan Manis, Taman Segar
56000 Cheras
KL
(As you turn into Leisure Mall from Jalan Cheras, you'll see a Petronas station on your right, further down about 100m, you'll see a row of hawker stalls on your left and this stall is one of them. The stall is directly in front of a Magnum 4D outlet and according to the owner, they will start operating from a shoplot few doors away from the Magnum 4D outlet, next to a hair saloon, by end of this month). Happy Hunting!
